Middle mouse button equals left button (fvwm, Slackware)?

Post by Doug Merri » Fri, 23 Dec 1994 02:12:35

My middle mouse button is behaviourly identical to the left mouse
button under fvwm, running a summer release of Slackware, X11R5.
This makes one xterm menu unavailable and makes pasting impossible,
since there's no function key bound to paste. Quite a nuisance.

I would think this is a common problem since I don't see anything
particularly unique about my setup. Anyone got a fix? Or a pointer
to a RTFM?

P.S. xinit sometimes crashes when xv is using an especially large
amount of virtual memory. Was that common with older xinit's, or
should I suspect my disk/swap subsystem?
        Thanks,
                Doug

Stupid question - has it ever worked correctly?  Many "3 button"
mice are coming from Taiwan that only have two working buttons.

You dont say what the mouse protocol you are using. If you have
one of those "3 button Microsoft" mouses, that is your problem.
Microsoft is a 2 button protocol. To see if your mouse sends distinct
events for all three buttons , try hitting all 3 buttons while
running xev. If you do not get distinct events for all 3 buttons,
you will have to resort to using 3 button emulation. You have to
specify this in the Xconfig file.

1. middle mouse button on three button mice

does anyone have a functioning 3-button mouse with a "Chic" label on top
who can get the middle button te be recognised by gpm/X.

when the button is pressed. I don't know what else and will only
investigate if there is nothing I have missed to set it up.

Under gpm it functions on the newer pnp type, it sends a M on opening
the serial port.

If anyone can point me to a version of gpm which can use it I would be
grateful.
I do know how to get at the source and hack in the support if nessacary
but I don't want to unless I have to.
