ATI Rage 3D Rage Pro and XFree86 4.1.0 problems

ATI Rage 3D Rage Pro and XFree86 4.1.0 problems

Post by Peter Daviso » Tue, 28 May 2002 12:27:49

I can't seem to get XFree86 4.1 to work with my setup.  It finding an
"INVALID MEM ALLOCATION".  I'm able to run XFree86 3.3.6 without any
problems but I want to try to get Xv going so I can watch DVDs.  I've seen
a number of similar postings but no solutions that work for me so I
thought I'd throw in my $0.02. Below is the log from starting X using
XFree86 4.1.0.  Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Pete.

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer than

Look at gatos.sf.net for another way to do video on ATIs.

Maybe a read on dri.sf.net & then post to the user list. There are people
currently working on ati who may be able to help.

Andy.

I have seen many people asking for help with this video card and
none of the answers I have seen worked for me.  I just recently upgraded
to a Pentium Pro 180 and an ATI 3D Pro Turbo PC2TV w/8MB SGRAM.  Some more
pertinent details:
        CPU:  Intel Pentium Pro 180
        MB:  Intel Venus 440FX
Video:  ATI 3D Pro Turbo PC2TV w/8MB SGRAM
Kernel:  Linux 2.0.30 i486 (APM features are enabled; does that
                make a difference?)
        XF86:  3.3.1
        GCC:  2.7.2.3
        LibC:  5.4.38
Monitor:  KFC (generic; no KF Chicken jokes please) 15"
I have included the output from startx (error3.txt) and my config file
(XF86Config).  When I start X windows (with 'startx') all I get is a blank
screen.  I know the monitor is still getting a signal because it doesn't
power itself down.  The screen is just black.  If you need any more
details, do not hesitate to ask.  I need help, PLEASE!!!
