Upgrade XFree86-3.1.1 to 3.1.2

I have a Gateway 2000 P-120 with a ATI Mach64 GX card 2MB (pci) and got
problem running 3.1.1. (When I click mouse or open a application,
the screen locked. ) I try to upgrade to 3.1.2 and I got the files:

3.1.1-3.1.2.diff.gz
cfont312.tgz
3.1.1-3.1.2.diff.gz.

But I don't know where is my xc/ directory to run
gzip -d < 3.1.1-3.1.2.diff.gz | patch -p -E
gzip -d < cfont312.tgz | tar vxf -

I installed linux from Slackware 2.2.0 CD-ROM.

1. Xconfigs for XFree86-3.1.1

I have just recently gotten Xwindows to work on my machine with the
XF86_W32 server. The problem that I am having is that my monitor keeps
degaussing itself in the middle of the X session. I have gotten the
resolution and the refresh that I want but the monitor is constantly
degaussing itself and my windows is very far off center. Is there
something that I can do to fix this problem.

I have a Hercules Dynamite Power VLB 2MB and a Tatung 15" monitor.

P.S. Is it possible to get any more than 8-bit color with the Xf86_W32
server?
