Weirdness with PS/2 mouse and 3-button emulation

Weirdness with PS/2 mouse and 3-button emulation

Post by Lincoln Ste » Sat, 18 Feb 1995 12:09:35

Perhaps someone can help me with this.  I'm using XFree86 3.1.1 with a
Logitech 2-button PS/2 style mouse.  As long as I don't have 3-button
emulation turned on everything is fine (except that I don't have a
middle button).  When I turn emulation on, I get the following strange
behavior: clicking either the left or right button has no effect until
I move the mouse ever so slightly.  Emulating the middle button by
clicking both buttons simultaneously works as expected.

Thoughts?

I have the exact same thing with my ps/2 mouse. I think it is not weird.
Only when you move the mouse, the 3buttonsemulator concludes you press
only one button. When you press the left button, the emulator waits
for you to either press the right one too, or not. How can the emulator
know that you will not press the right one too? He waits indefinitely
for the right button, or until you move the mouse.

1. Mouse Systems 3-button "PS/2 Mouse" - Will it Work?

I just purchased a Mouse Systems 3-button PS/2 Mouse to replace a 2-button
mouse (the user couldn't stand using chorded middle).

Unfortunately, I can't get it to work with either gpm or Xree86.  The
mouse will move up and to the right, but simply jumps when you attempt to
move left or down.  I mostly tried /dev/mouse -> /dev/psaux, but the other
options (/dev/inportbm, etc. don't seem to work, either).

It's not a hardware problem, as the mouse works fine under Win95.  I'm
beginning to suspect and incompatibility with the linux PS/2 mouse driver.

Does anyone have any ideas/experience?

Also, I can't get test-mouse to work with ANY mouse I have, most of which
work fine with gpm and XFree86.  Anyone else?
