Interesting Netscape problem

Post by Ashwin Biha » Wed, 03 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Howdy, got an interesting problem here, currently running AfterStep 1.0
window manager..with XFree86 3.3 and Netscape Navigator Gold 3.01, anywayz
when I launch Netscape from the WHARF or from the menus that I get from left
clicking the mouse it loads up, but when I got to a page with any JAVA applets
it exits without any messages..THOUGH, if I were to open a regular xterm and
then launch netscape through that, it loads up all the pages without any
problems, so if I had a problems with JAVA classes files or the gnumalloc.so
file or anything else all of the methods of loading Netscape should fail..but
it does not..anyone have any ideas on this one?

Interesting. I have the disappearing problems with JAVA also but I have not
tried to launch Netscape via xterm. I will try it and let you know what
happens!

1. Any interest in Netscape Servers for Solaris x86?

I am trying to convince people at Netscape that porting their very nice
server software to Solaris x86 is worth their while.  (Enterprise Web
Server, Collabra News Server, Messaging Email Server, Proxy Server,
Calendar Server, Compass Server, etc., etc.)

We really like Solaris, but most of our clients think buying an
UltraSparc just to run Netscape Enterprise Server or Netscape Messaging
Server just doesn't make economic sense when they see NT running on
hardware costing less than half that much.  Too bad Sun doesn't make
something more "low end".   NT and Novell simply aren't reasonable
alternatives to Solaris x86.

If you think you might be interested in being able to run Netscape
server software on Solaris x86, go to
http://home.netscape.com/feedback/product.html and request that Netscape
SuiteSpot (or whatever server product you want most) be ported to
Solaris x86.  Also email me and I'll build a list so that we can mount a
semi-organized campaign.

After all, it really shouldn't be difficult.  All they have to do is
type "make".
