realplayer has to run manually

Post by Rory » Sun, 26 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I have real player 5.0 for redhat linux. Right now i have it setup so
When I click a real audio icon on a web page,
the real player open up but i have to manually select "open file" then
select the  *.ram file in the /tmp dir to play it.

In netscape's preferences under applications i selected the
/usr/bin/rvplayer for the applcation to be used.

my queston is : is their a  *.so file that i can put in
~/.netscape/plugins so netscape can play the file automatically
when I click on a real audio icon ?

Thanks Rory,

Make sure you put a '%s' at the end of the realplayer path name in the
netscape helper config.  This is written in some docs in RealPlayer.

Adding '%s' to the line in Netscape's preferences should do the trick
'/usr/bin/rvplayer %s'

Netscape is kind of cryptic with this whole thing..  Hopefully that will
get changed in the future...

There is some information in the README file for this, but it only works
when the RealVideo clip is embedded in a web page (ie, someone used the
<EMBED> tag)

Thanks  Neal and Michael,
it did the trick. I agree ,Netscape should make this more obvious to the
end user

1. Having to run insmod manually (RH 7.1)

Is your machine trying to start up the interface connected to your
cable-modem at bootup?  If so, try adding this line to your
/etc/modules.conf (assuming that eth0 is that adapter):
'alias eth0 8139too'

Then when 'ifconfig eth0 up' is issued it should load the correct
module.
