Fatal server error: couldn't open default font 'fixed'

Post by Pavel Tkatchou » Wed, 16 Jul 1997 04:00:00

/var/log/Xerrors:
<snip>
loading /usr/lib/X11/Metro/modules/libType1.a

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

What is the default font 'fixed'? Name?
In which dir it suppose to be?

I'm running RedHat 4.1, kernel 2.0.30, MetroX.

Thanks,

Pavel

fonts.alias (see below) sez:

fixed    -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso8859-1

Quote:>In which dir it suppose to be?

check:

/usr/lib/X11/Metro/fonts/misc/

You ought to have these files:

6x13.pcf.Z     cursor.pcf.Z   fonts.alias    fonts.dir      helvB12.pcf.Z

The fonts subdir on your system ought to be:

/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/

There's another fonts.alias in there, too.

I don't know much about fonts, but the above should get you
started.  If you don't have'em, install'em.
