I've a problem with Linux and althought I know this isn't your
problem, I hope you may help me.

At the end I've installed a Linux RedHat 6.0 but I'm not able to configure
X-server to work properly:
I've install Linux on a Compaq Notebook (Presario 1690), wich has "on-board"
an ATI Rage 3D Pro Lt (x2 AGP) ,... i think the chip used inside this video
card is "Mach64". Well, when I 've run Xconfigurator this model is not in
the LIST, I tried to configure the server with another model and with a
"Laptop 1024x768" for monitor, but after three flash (that means the first
part of the test, refer to the monitor, is OK) the last test show me a
distorted immage...happens for evry type of resolutions, becouse, in my
opinion the problem is in the video-card that is NOT supported.
Can you help me??

Thank you indeed

Hi Lupo,
I had a similar problem with RedHat 5.2 but when I switch to RH6.1, the
problem go away. So, I guess is RH6.0 don't support your video-card yet. Try
to get hold of RH6.1.
Hope that help.

Please install the new Xfree86 3.3.6, it updates ATI's drivers.
Good Luck!

Here is what I think you should do if you're using RedHat:  go to this RedHat
address:

Quote:> http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/RHSA1999035-O2.html

and download the Mach64 server that contains the 3.3.5 update for XFree86.  The
name of that file is:

XFree86-Mach64-3.3.5-1.6.0.i386.rpm

There are instructions near the above page on how to install it; it's something
like,

rpm -(some options) [filename]

Your problem is that XFree86 doesn't support the "LT" type of video chip, until
version 3.3.5.  Good luck -- RM
