Very Computer

Hi everyone.  I am thinking ahead to constructing a new kick ass Linux
system and I am interested in getting the new Matrox g400 Max video
card (the one with 32Mb of RAM).  This card supports two monitors at
once under Winblows.  Is this sort of thing supported yet under X
(Xfree86?).  If not I guess I can just settle for the G400 with the
single head and only 16Mb of RAM.  Any suggestions?

Also if you had an unlimited amount of money what would be the most
kick-ass video card out there to buy (2D or 3D)?

Hi

The development snapshots of X4 have some support in and there are
people working on finishing it, but apparantly it sucks - the G400's
primary head is blindingly fast, but the second head is about half the
speed.

You'd be better off getting a G400 and a PCI G200

  Not quite.

  There isn't ANY support for the G400's
second head in XF 4.0.  The second head
sucks but not because of "speed".  The
second ramdac is limited to 112 MHz, has
no hardware cursor, can't do gamma
correction or direct color and only works
in 16 and 32 bpp.
