Ethernet Card Quit

Ethernet Card Quit

Post by Ted » Fri, 12 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I set up redhat 5.2 and all was good... then after a few days of
everything working fine, I got a notice at start-up that my ethernet card
could not be initialized... it was busy. How can I get that back?

Thanks,
Ted

First (and this isn't intended to be a flame) comp.os.linux.networking
people could probably help more.  Second, if you are using DHCP and it lost
its ip (DHCP under linux 2.0 is a little ghetto, try uprgrading to the 2.2
kernel [I am this weekend for just that reason]) all you have to do is 'ifup
eth0' and that will tell eth0 (assuming it is the first/only NIC) to get an
ip.  If not (or if that doesn't work) use the route command to display the
routing table and see if things are cool there. (NB:  dhcp will fill out the
route table if you are using that entry)  If not use 'route add -net eth0'
(you can also pass along the netmask and such, see man route) to add it to
the routing table and 'route del -net eth0' to remove it and start
again.  NO MATTER WHAT DON'T MESS WITH lo, this is the loopback device and
should be set fine and things will go crazy if you mess it up.  Hope that
helps.

1. Ethernet card quit

On Redhat 5.2 ... I installed everything and the card was working just
fine, then I set up the sound (which worked fine). Now the ethernet card
won't work, natutally I figured that it had to do with conflicting IRQ's
but I can't figure out how to fix it... I will disable the sound if I have
to, but I'd like to have both. Does my IRQ theory sound right? What should
I do?
