Mach64 card w/Mach64 or SVGA Xserver

Post by Qke » Fri, 18 Feb 2000 04:00:00

I have an Ati Graphics Expression 2mb PCI video card.
(stg1702 ramdac)
I'm running Debian Potato and kernel 2.2.14.
640x480 8bpp will not work with the SVGA or Mach64
Xserver. 640x480 does work with the vga16 Xserver, but
this is useless.
The problem is the Vertical size is too big, I tried
multiple modelines and the effect was limited, I could
not get the screen to fit vertically, xvidtune seemed to be
working when I exceeded the possible settings given the
monitor specs entered in XF86Config.

works with the vga16 Xserver, Why ?

Any help apprecaited! :/

It might be your monitor.  I've got an ATI Mach64 Graphics Ultra Pro or
something like that with Chrontel CH8398 RAMDAC and 1MB VRAM.  On an old

is stretched vertically) with the card on the Mach64 X server, but not
with the SVGA server.  However it worked fine on my Nokia 17" with both

vanilla vga monitor, did you?), which worked fine on a stone-age trident
card worked on the mach64 server but would not sync on the svga server.
But on the Mach64 server 720x540 was stretched, but 1024x768i was
NOT!!.  These problems occured regardless of the bit depth.

Quite strange.  Try a different monitor and see if the problem goes
away.

1. ATI Mach64 PCIQ: ATI Mach64 PCI, Xwindow problems ?

You should install XFree86 3.1.  Its Mono, VGA16 and SVGA servers include
(unaccelerated) support for Mach64's.  For an accelerated server, you'll
have to wait until XFree86 >=3.2.
