XF86Config for ATI Mach32 w 1Mbyte

Post by Jim Hamma » Thu, 21 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I am trying to configure an ATI Mach 32 with 1 Mbyte of memory and receive
a message something like "Not enough memory to support requested resolution (1280x1024)".  (I don't think I'm asking for this resolution.)

If I change the configuration and tell it I have 2 Mbytes of memory (which
I don't!) it runs and displays the screen with vertical bands of black pixels, so it seems to talk to the board okay, but is confused about memory.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
  Jim

Jim,
Double check your screen section.  You probably have a line that
reads:
        Virtual         1280x1024
Just change the 1280x1024 to 1024x768.  This is the setting I use with
my Mach32 1MB and there's no problem.  If you can't get it working,
let me know and I can e-mail you my XF86Config file.

1. HELP: struggling with XF86Config and ATI-Mach32 card

The startx command returns the following error:

"There is no defined dot-clock matching mode "640x480"

According to XF86 documentation, Max Dot Clock of my
ATI Graphics Ultra Pro for 1024x768 is 80MHz.

Where in the XF86Config file is dot-clock matching mode
"640x480" defined?  And what would the dot-clock for
"640x480" for this card be?

Thanks in advance for your help.
