XF86Setup Make My Box Go DEAD!

XF86Setup Make My Box Go DEAD!

Hi, I know, it's pretty freaky, but that's what happened.

I was using 3.3.3.1 from Redhat's 5.2's update directory at rpmfind.net
and once I upgraded XFree86, SVGA, libs, fonts, 16VGA and XF86Setup, I ran
it and it tried to test the settings I chose by starting X and that's when
I saw my monitor power down as though telling me that the power went out
from the computer.  But in fact, the power was on according to my power
light.

Luckily, I was able to reboot and tried once more with XF86Setup before I
gave up.  Anybody ever experience this?  I'm running kernel 2.2.1 and I
don't know if that has anything to do with it.  Any ideas or suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much in advance.

Best,

Steve

You're trying to open X in a display mode that your monitor can't handle.
New monitors usually just turn themselves off when they can't handle
the signal.

Try again using another display mode. Also, you can check the manual that
came with your monitor, there you will find all data you'll need for this.

1. dead.letter will not go to directory specified in DEAD variable AIX4.3

Can anyone help with my problem with the mail cmd and the DEAD env var
to change directory of dead.letter.
On my system the dead.letter will not go to directory specified in
DEAD variable (AIX4.3)

I did the following:
/home/user1> export DEAD=/home/logger/mail/logs
/home/user1> mail someone
next type some crap en press ctrl^d. The following appears:
/home/user1> someone... User unknown
/home/user1/dead.letter... Saved message in /home/user1/dead.letter

I have read and write permission in every directory mentioned here.
I just can't get the mail deamon to place the dead.letter somewhere
else.

Can somebody help?
(AIX4.3.3.0 RS6000)
