Greetings,

I have been trying, in vain, to get XFree86 up and running on a
system with the following configuration:

Machine: Oldish HP Vectra XU 5/90
Monitor: HP Ultra VGA 1280, Model 2807A
S3 864 graphics accelerator
SuperProbe output:
  First video: Super-VGA
        Chipset: S3 Vision864 (PCI Probed)
        Memory:  2048 Kbytes
        RAMDAC:  STG1702 15/16/24-bit DAC w/cursor,pixel-mux
                 (with 6-bit wide lookup tables (or in 6-bit mode))
                 (programmable for 6/8-bit wide lookup tables)

I cannot for the life of me get it to start in anything other
than VGA.  It pops out the messages:

(--) SVGA: There is no defined dot-clock matching mode "1024x768"

I've tried several different configurations as I run through
XF86Setup, but none seem to make any difference.

Yes, I've tried the S3 server as well.

   Is there anyone who can give me a good clue as to what I
   might be doing wrong?

   Anyone have a config file that they think might put an end to
   this misery?

Help getting (2) PCI NICs on an HP XU P/90 Vectra ???

Hi all;

  Looking for some help...

  We are setting up a FIREWALL on an:

   HP XU vectra pentium 90
   w/ 540meg IDE HD
   intergrated SCSI controller (no devices connected -disabled)
   intergrated Network interface (32bit) ??

   we are looking for any help , from someone that has figured out what if
any PCI network cards will work in this system. We need (2) cards with some
good bandwidth. This is why we are going with PCI.

  we would love to be able to take advantage of the intergrated controller
(network); and any other PCI card that will co-exist. We are presently
using (2) 3com boards.. both ISA, but really want to go PCI. Can't seem to
get a driver that works with the intergrated interface. It sees it alright,
but won't talk!

  has anyone gotten LINUX up an running on such a box ??

  any help / info would be appreciated !
