I just bought a Mouse Systems 3-button serial mouse and am having trouble
getting it to work with X in all instances. A friend says that it is a problem
with using 3-button mice with serial cards that use 16550 UARTs. He says the
buffering messes it up. Has anybody else heard of this? Is there another
problem that it might be? Solutions?

Well, you could always do:

setserial /dev/mouse uart 8250

Which should turn off the fifo on whatever you have /dev/mouse set to

Well, I'm currently running two Linux boxen, both of which have Mouse
Systems three-button optical mice attached through 16550A serial ports.

Problems: none.
