Radeon Radeon Radeon

Hi there,
I have just the same prob.
I have the 64MB version and used
the rpms from suse to upgrade to xfree 402.
I thought this would be cool.
Now I know, I am not a linux expert.
The result is, no sax, sax2 supported.
I tried to set the xf86config, the way described in
the readme and so on
............................................................................
.............. ?

I think I will start to kill myself.

Can anyone help ?

Hi Holger

I did the same as you with SuSE 7. I have a working X server but it stuck in 640
x 480 x 4, which is pretty useless.

To get the window manager going (it sticks on TWM after upgrade & configure),
use "susewm" to change it to KDE, or your own preference.

Hope this helps a little.

Jon

Jon

ATI are notorious for not offering any help to the Linux X developers and I
don't think the Radeon is supported. However they do support firm developing
Pro X Servers so see their site for details (something like
http://www.ati.com (?)).

As an aside I seem to remember hearing that X86Free 4 doesn't support as
many graphics cards as Version 3???!!! I know of a few people who have had
to install the old version to get their cards to get the X server running.

Like the utah-glx developers who have HW accelerated GL for RagePro cards?
Or perhaps like the DRI developers at VA Linux who ATI paid to write HW
accelerated 2D & 3D drivers for all Rage 128 and Radeon cards (drvers which
are currently functional)?

For those who are interested, the Radeon 3D acceleration code is in the DRI cvs
repository. Reports of 100FPS in Quake 3 have been reported. The T&L pipeline
is not yet implemented, but the rest is working well apparently.

1. FYI: Getting a ATI Radeon Dual Display Edition [Radeon VE, 32 DDR] to Work

I had a problem with my new ATI Radeon Dual Display edition card. The
problem was that X would start up, pretend to be working, but nothing
displaying on the monitor --- it was blank, and the monitor went into
DPMS power save mode. Unlike other people's problem when I Googled, my
machine didn't hang: Switching to another worked fine.

Solution (please don't laugh): Use the other video connector, i.e., the
one included for digital flat-panel displays. [They include an adaptor
in the box]. I didn't try this until after a couple X-window
re-installs, all versions from 3.3.6 to 4.1... Note that only 4.1
supports this card.

Anyone know how to get X to recognize both displays on the card?
