I had the same problem recently. I upgraded to gimp 1.0 and
requirements, and broke xv. I went to the xv homepage,
http://www.trilon.com/xv/downloads.html, and found some information on a
patch to use the newer jpeg libraries. I down loaded the source, along
with the jpeg libraries, applied the patch, replaced the jpeg directory
in the xv source with the new jpeg source, compiled and installed.
works fine.
I also found out that there is an updated rpm for redhat 5.1 in your
nearest redhat mirror (updates/5.1/i386), if you are running a redhat
system. I'm running 5.0, and the update was not made available, but I
assume it would work in 5.0 as well.
