libjpeg error. type 61 vs type 62

Post by dst.. » Fri, 17 Jul 1998 04:00:00

When I try to view a jpg image, I get the error that says:

Jpeg library is of type 61, caller expects 62. What does this mean?
What did I do?

All I can think of is compiling GIMP (gimp will load the jpg's. but xv
can't and WindowMaker can't load them as background images in the root
window) had me install some jpeg libraries. But what would be different about
those?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help,

I got similar when I dumped KDE on my system.  I think it's a slightly
different version.

A different version of what? I must have some problem with the jpeg libs
that everything, even XV uses to open jpg files. I don't know how all
this plugs together so I'm kind of screwed like that.

You've got an application that was built to use v6b of libjpeg,
and you're trying to run it with a v6a libjpeg shared library.

You need to recompile your app against the installed version of
libjpeg, or update libjpeg to v6b (which will mean updating your
other apps that depend on the shared library, I fear).

BTW, unless someone has gratuitously hacked up your copy of libjpeg,
the actual text of the message was
Wrong JPEG library version: library is 61, caller expects 62
which seems moderately clear to me ... at least it should set you
to thinking about version differences.

I had the same problem recently.  I upgraded to gimp 1.0 and
requirements, and broke xv.  I went to the xv homepage,
http://www.trilon.com/xv/downloads.html, and found some information on a
patch to use the newer jpeg libraries.  I down loaded the source, along
with the jpeg libraries, applied the patch, replaced the jpeg directory
in the xv source with the new jpeg source, compiled and installed.
works fine.

I also found out that there is an updated rpm for redhat 5.1 in your
nearest redhat mirror (updates/5.1/i386), if you are running a redhat
system.  I'm running 5.0, and the update was not made available, but I
assume it would work in 5.0 as well.

Hope this helps.

sorry, that should be updates/5.1/i386/jpeg, and the package is
xv-3.10a-12.i386.rpm.

1. KDE 1.1.2: Wrong JPEG library version: library is 62, caller expects 61

I'm running SuSE 6.4.  After a fsck-problem I had to resort to running Yast
again.
Ever since i get the above message.on running kview, kbgndwm and the like.

I tried fiddling with symlinks and updating the kbase-, ksupp & kgraph-rpms
to no avail.

What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks!
