Customizing GNOME

Customizing GNOME

Post by Upali Banda » Sat, 03 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hi, everybody!

This morning I installed GNOME with enlightenment. In my Xclients file I
added these lines:

enlightenment &
panel

Starting X I saw the standard Background of X11 (the grey eye tortureing
pattern). Although I set the background with the GNOME Control Center,
next time I start X the same grey background appears. What do I do
wrong? Could it be that I must something else than "panel"?

Thanks,

Samuel Bandara

Instead of that command try

gnome-session

Set the background using enlightenment.

I think he either needs to start enlightenment last and the panel first
since launching panel last does not give a windowmanager or use
gnome-session to make enlightenment launch.  I have noticed that I could not
get gnome-session to work correctly the first few times and had to do things
manually.

1. How to customize gnome-panel?

Does anyone know how to customize gnome-panel?  It seems to be
undocumented.  We would like to add a menu and a couple of launchers
to the top bar for all users of a Solaris 9 8/03 system.
