XF86Config for IBM ValuePoint (S3/ IBM 6324)

Hi friends,

I am having incredible difficulty setting XFree86 on this computer.  The
hardware is a bit unusual.  I haven't even been able to get X going with
the VGA (or SVGA) server-- in fact X hangs the system.  Please escuse me
if the following description indicates my ignorance.  I have several of
these computers and would like to get XFree86-3.3.1-14 working on them.
I have installed RedHat 5.0 straight out of the box.

IBM ValuePoint computer with IBM 6324 14in monitor.

On the _motherboard_ is an S3 805 chip, with ATT201c491 ramdac (this is
a real AT&T chip) but I do not know if there is a programmable clockchip
there (what would I look for?)  There is 1MB of ram.

SuperProbe tells us:

Chipset: S3 86c805, C-step (Port Probed)
Memory: 1024Kb
RAMDAC: AT&T 20C491
15/16/24 bit DAC with gamma correction (with 6-bit wide lookup
tables (or in 6-bit mode)) (programmable for 6/8-bit wide lookup tables)

but X --probeonly says it cannot find the ramdac.

Thanks in advance for any hints,

John

XF86Config for IBM ValuePoint (S3/ IBM 6324)

I had a Valuepoint 486-66, but it definitely had a Tseng video chip and
came with Tseng utilities.  Although I never tried installing Linux on that
machine, I remember seeing a readme or howto regarding the Valuepoint.  You
might see if that file is on your distribution.  I wonder if the chip is
somehow customized per IBM specification?

Sorry I can't be of more help.

1. XF86Config for IBM PS/ValuePoint

I have installed Linux at work.

The System is as follows,

IBM - PS/ValuePoint 433DX/Si
Videocard - No Info
Video Memory - No Info
Monitor - IBM 14 L8

I tried SuperProbe and the output was - MCGA.

What X Server should I use?
Are there any XF86Config files for this Monitor?

If anyone has a similar system, please let me know
what server you are using and how your XF86Config
file looks like.

Any pointers is helpful.

Thank you in advance.
