I think the actual difference is that virge dx is a drop in replacement for the
plain virge but has a clock of 175 Mhz vs. 135 for the plain; this allows
manufacturers to reuse blank boards and prior board layout artwork. As the
plain virge used edo ram so does DX. The GX isn't pin compatible with the DX;
has a 185 Mhz clock and can use either edo or sgram; it is software compatible
with the DX.
