Post by Torben Marcusse » Sat, 17 May 1997 04:00:00

Hi

I have an ATI Mach64 VT (264GT) with internal RAMDAC which I can't get
to work with X......

Everytime I try to run X I get the error:

Fatal server error:
xf86MapVidMem: Could not mmap framebuffer (No such device or address)

What the hell does this mean...????????

TIA

Are you running the latest Xfree (3.2 or 3.2A)?

There is a bug in 3.2 and 3.2A which causes the low bits of the framebuffer
address to not be zeroed correctly for some cards.  Best to get 3.3
where this is fixed, or manually enter the membase address reported by
the server into your XF86Config file, with the low byte set to 0.

1. ATI Mach64 VT PCI chip unknown

I have a problem with PCI unknown device
I read the include/pci.h and sent a mail as proposed but got
no answer so i try here
I definately dont know how to make my own driver...

What i have is a graphics card ATI Mach64 with the following labels:

215VT2CA42
264VT2
CTTXBPRL-00
A22DU9644
PCI 113-34004-104 (which is the chip it complains on i think)

Odd thing is that th XF86 has a mach64 driver which is supposed to
work with my card, but it seems that the actual RH4.2 doesnt...
Most things seem to work apart from that i cant change to
resolutions and bpps as i should be with my hardware and monitor

Maybe my card is broken somehow  since another odd thing is that
SuperProbe says its a 1536kb RAM card with internal ramdac
and X says its a 2M ram card with ibm 514 or similar ramdac

Its supposed to be 2M , would it work at all if one memorychip was
broken? 264VT2 all have internal ramdacs too dont they?

Hope someone can answer these things , then i can ask further
questions about modelines who doesnt seem correct in comp.linux.x
but first i want to know if I have a broken card or if its because
RH4.2 doesnt support it...
