different resolutions, different bit depths?

different resolutions, different bit depths?

Post by Nate Sammo » Fri, 26 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Can I have different resolutions have different bitdepths under XFree86?

i.e. can I setup my config file to have 8bit at 1280x1024, and 24bit
at 640x480?

thanks,

-nate

Yes, you just need to setup different "screens" in the XF86Config file.
Look at the file for examples & comments.

1. different WMs for different depths? HOW?

does anyone know how to specify a different Window Manager for different
colour depths? I know it seems like a wierd request, but I have my
reasons, ie, the elf version of olvwm has a bug that breaks it at 16bpp,
which I don't use very often, but I have a fine elf 8bpp version, so I'd
like it to only run the a.out one when I'm at 16bpp. can I configure
this in xinitrc or xserverrc?
