server that supports 16bpp with et4000/w32 chipsets??

Post by chappi » Mon, 02 Sep 1996 04:00:00

is there a server that supports a 16bpp or 32bpp with an et4000/w32
chipsets? especifically for Hercules Dynamite Power card with 2mg of
memory?

i have tried the XF86_W32 server and this one does not support 16bpp or
32bpp, only 8bpp. XF86_SVGA also does not support it!

will there be ever be one that will support it? or is there one laying
out there somewhere??

1. Tseng ET4000/W32 server -- Fix for 16bpp?

I have a Tseng W32p card, and I know a lot of other Linux users do, and I'm
interested in going from 8 to 16 bit planes, but I've heard that the server
doesn't currently support that.  I have a fair deal of experience with
C/C++ development, and I'm wondering -- if I was thinking of trying to
add this feature to the W32 server, where could I find the technical
specs for the W32 class of cards?

I'm essentially wondering how big a deal this sort of fix would be.

Thanks for any experienced input,
