X 4.01, Voodoo 3 2000, and desktop resolutions

Does anyone know if you can run your desktop at 512x384 resolution with
XFree86 4.01 and the Voodoo 3 2000? That's the resolution I play Quake III
Arena at, and I need to run the desktop at that resolution to get the game
at fullscreen. In the Screens section of XF86Config, I added "512x384" to
the "Modes" line, but I cant't switch to that mode.

1. FlightGear - Voodoo 3 - XFree 86 4.01 ????????/

If anyone has gotten FlightGear to run with direct rendering under
XF86 4.01 using a Voodoo 3 card or similar, please let me know how you
did it.  I can only get it to use Mesa indirect rendering, which isn't
too much fun.  Any help would be appreciated.
