Very Computer

I have a Compaq Armada M700 ATI Rage Mobility adapter.  X runs fine on the
laptop monitor.  When I use the docking station( direct passthru on the
video ) at boot time the external monitor works fine. When i start the
X-Terminal,
the X Window would be displayed on the laptop monitor, not on the external
Monitor.
What can I do, that the XFree86 use the external Monitor?

I am having the same problem on my Dell Latitude C600.  It has the ATI Rage
Mobility 128 adapter and I am running X 4.0.3.  It has been suggested to me
that I upgrade to 4.1.0 and add this to my XF86Config file under the 'Device'
Section (this won't work on 4.0.3):
i.e.

Section "Device"
  BoardName     "Rage 128 Mobility"
  BusID         "1:0:0"
  Driver        "r128"
 Option     "UseBIOSDisplay"

(some lines cut out)
EndSection

I tried upgrading to 4.1.0 (both binary AND source distros), but it completely
trashed X and I had to reinstall my distro all over again to make it work
again.  You may wish to try it yourself, but you've been warned.  Apparently
however, this solution has worked for other people having this problem.  I

Hi guys: I also have the same problem, running 4.03 on a Vaio ....
but my question is (I think) more basic. Where is the documentation
for X
which tells about the Config stuff for both internal and external
displays?
Where, for example are all the various "options" documented?

Seemingly not in the manpage for XF86Config ... and I found nothing on
the XFree website.

Maybe old-fashioned of me ..... but I like to  figure these things out
as far
as possible without troubling other people!

Try the man pages (e.g. man 4 r128) or look into the README-files in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc

i have a dell latitude c800 at work, with the same problem (under red hat
7.1), the only way that this seems to work is when you use the VESA
driver for X. i heard there were some problems with accelerated x and
docking stations etc...
what you can do is use vesa when docked and accel x for normal undocked
usage. the only thing you will miss is 3d acceleration as normal x
operations seem to work fast.
