If you're using XFree86 3.1.2 or earlier, upgrade to 3.2. You'll find
that the setup is much easier. I have CL5446 card, and XFree86 3.1.2
didn't detect my video ram correctly. It is possible to configure it
correctly, but XFree86 3.2 is worth the download anyway. Also, read the
/usr/X11/lib/X11/doc/README.cirrus file.
The error message you're getting sounds like you might not have the
symbolic links to your X-server set up correctly, but maybe someone else
another idea...
