Hello.
I've just spent a very frustrating 3 hours trying to get my brand-new
Viper 330 to recognize its 8megs of RAM. I can't seem to get the SVGA
server to recognize more than 1 meg. I'm about ready to beat my card
with a sledge hammer.
Here's the relevant sections from my XF86Config file:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Diamond Viper 330"
VendorName "Diamond"
BoardName "Viper 330"
Videoram 8192
EndSection
As the XFree86 documentation suggests, I use the svga server and don't
indicate either a RAMDAC or any Clocks options. X starts up but gives
me the following:
0xee0000
00
(--) SVGA: RIVA128: Setting RGB weight to 555
(--) SVGA: chipset: RIVA128
(--) SVGA: videoram: 1024k
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(why doesn't my XF86Config file let me change this????????)
(**) SVGA: Using 16 bpp, Depth 16, Color weight: 555
(--) SVGA: Maximum allowed dot-clock: 230.000 MHz
(**) SVGA: Mode "640x480": mode clock = 31.500
(**) SVGA: Mode "800x600": mode clock = 60.750
(**) SVGA: Mode "1024x768": mode clock = 85.000
(--) SVGA: Insufficient video memory for all resolutions
(--) SVGA: Removing mode "1024x768" from list of valid modes.
(**) SVGA: Mode "1280x1024": mode clock = 110.000
(--) SVGA: Insufficient video memory for all resolutions
(--) SVGA: Removing mode "1280x1024" from list of valid modes.
(--) SVGA: Virtual resolution set to 800x600
As a result, I;m stuck running 16bpp with a resolution of 16bpp - my old
Diamond S3-based card performed much better than this! I can't run with
32bpp at all.
Somebody please help!!
Mike
