any keystrokes kills off the shell window (XFree86 3.3)

Hi, I just installed XFree86 3.3. But there is something weird going on
with the shell in XWindows. When I move the mouse to any shell, and I
touch any key on the keyboard, the window gets killed immediately. The
funny thing is that I opened up Xemacs and typed with it, and it worked
fine, the words appear on the window and saves the file correctly.
Xtetris will destroy its own window too whenever I touch any key on the
keyboard.

I have tried opening a color xterm, a regular xterm, and a "root xterm"
from the task bar in fvwm95. For all those windows that I opened the
window gets destroyed at one keystroke.

I have tried both the XKB (Xkeyboard) mode both on and off. Both of them
results in the same thing.

I'm running Xfree86 3.3 on an ATI Rage II card. The keyboard is standard
US 101-keys.

Please help.... thanks a million.

Sincerely
Chiew Farn

p/s: please reply by email too. Thank you.

1. changing window manager under xfree86 3.3

I downloaded and installed xfree86 3.3 from the xfree86 site, but I
can't seem to figure out how to change window managers.

I have downloaded fvwm95 also, followed the directions, but all I can
get to run is twm :-(
I have the .fvwm95rc file in my home directory. Where is the .xinitrc
file supposed to go? The default seems to be in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinitrc, but the fvwm95 readme doesn't seem to sync
with the way things are setup.

I have never installed X manually, I have always let the slackware setup
program do it for me.

What am I overlooking?
Thanks,
Jason
