XF86Mach64 thinks I have the wrong RAMDAC

Post by Gabriel Klyb » Sat, 16 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I have an ATI Graphics Pro Turbo with 4MB.  It works well with XFree, but
will not work in 800x600. It works in all modes but 800x600. When looking
into the problem, I noticed that the Mach64 server(3.1.2 and 3.1.2A)thinks
that I have an ATI68880 RAMDAC when I really have an ATI68860. I'm pretty
sure it reprts the wrong chipset too, but I only positive about the RAMDAC.
I saw that there isn't an option to force a certain RAMDAC. Any suggestions?

The is a old bug in XF86. There are two major revs of the
ATI68860. The newer rev is wrongly detected as an ATI68880 by
XF86. Maybe they'll fix it sometimes ;-)

1. XF86 detects ramdac wrong

I have a Diamond FireGL 1000.  This card has an IBM 526DB ramdac capable
of doing something like 230MHz, but at startup, X (using XF86_3DLabs)
says the max allowed dot clock is 100.0 Mhz.  It does correctly identify
the ramdac as IBM 526DB, so why is the clock limited to 100?  This is
severely limiting.

Thanks,
Jeremy
