Q: How to get rid of "busy file" check

Post by Jer-Jaw Hs » Thu, 30 May 1996 04:00:00

In my PC linux, when  an exe file is running or is debugged, I couldn't
recompile and write to the exe file.  Could anyone tell me how to get
rid of the "busy file" check.

A simple workaround is just to rm the old exe file. In that way, the
connection to the file system is lost, and the file is deleted when is
stops executing. You can create a new executable file with the same
name with no problems.

Hope this helps...

Another workaround is to create a symlink to your exe, and run that
instead of the exe.  The symlink is then busy and the exe isn't.
Beware, though, as writing over the exe may well cause your application
to crash (state the obvious).

This works on HP's, so I guess it will work on Linux.

Hope this helps,

Charlie

1. Getting "(26)Text file busy" in log file when updating

A user is using FrontPage to update his site. Our server is not running
FrontPage Extensions. Not every time, but some times when he is updating
his site he gets an error message about cannot write to file while
program is running. In the error_log we see:

[Tue Aug  1 11:36:47 2000] [error] [client 38.203.166.2] (26)Text file
busy: file permissions deny server access:
/home/products3/web-data/htdocs/law/contact_info.htm

Has anyone seen this before?
