Hello,
has anybody successfully installed X11 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600
Notebook running Red Hat 7.2?
I tried several times but always failed.

if all else fails, use framebuffer (you may need to install XFree86-FBDev
rpm) for X. that's what i did on my notebook, whose video card isn't quite
well supported

The driver for the S3Virge chipset in the laptop never gave me a readable
display no matter how I tried to configure it.
Frame buffer gave me a beautiful 800x600 display on a 1024x768 laptop and
Vesa gave me the full 1024x768
Of course I am having major mouse problems with the Toshiba stick mouse.

My current configuration is:
- RedHat 7.2
- Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600, P III 800 Mhz, 128 Mb
- XFree 86 4.1.0 (so /etc/X11/X is a link to /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86)
- a grub.conf file with vga=791 on the kernel line
(run grub --batch after changing this.)
- The XFree86 file below. Remembered changes from my side:
- added VideoRam 16384 to the Device section
- Modes "1024x768" at my Display Subsection
- An external microsoft scroll mouse.
Good luck!

1. Toshiba Satellite pro 4600 and XFree 4.0.3: only fb mode works
Hi,
I've just configured my brand new Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 with X 4.0.3.
However, I was unable to make it run on the native drivers; it works only
with frame buffer. The video card of the Toshiba is a Trident CyberBlade XP,
with 16MB mem & 3D capabilities. Does it exist today a driver able to run
and use it? Where can I find it?
Regards,
Eric Devolder
