Problem With My Tab Key!!!

Post by Mr. Sma » Tue, 14 May 1996 04:00:00

Hi there. I use Xwin32 to send a query to my X server running on xdm.
I can get the login prompt and login to get fvwm without problem. How
ever when I enter xterm or xrvt in fvwm, my tab key can't "guess" ahead
any more but funcition like a back space. A thing to notice is if I don't
don't send query but telnet to my server first and setenv DISPLAY there
then run fvwm to get the virtual console on my xwin32 there's not such
problem. Could any Linux and X gurus there hlep me with this??? Thanks a lot!

Kenny

Checked on my machine,  checkout file xinit/.Xmodmap this remaps the key
definition for linux (Slakware), I took out the remapping line and my
xwin32 is now fine.  If that fails look for the use of the program
xmodmap in the X startup scripts, or window manager startup scripts or
xdm scripts.

1. entering tab in vi without using tab key

is there a way of entering a tab in vi w/o using the tab key?

the reason is because i configured my editor to insert spaces instead
of tabs when i press the tab key.  but sometimes i'd like to actually
insert a tab.  how do i do this?  i tried <ctrl-i> but that still
inserts spaces.

ideally it would be nice if there was a general way of entering
characters by ascii values that way i could enter other characters as
well like carriage return.
