Latest Gnome version?

Post by Steve Weis » Wed, 20 Oct 1999 04:00:00

On the Gnome web site, the latest version is 1.0.53-2 (October) but I
downloaded 1.0.7-2 back in September. Which is the latest (and if it's
1.0.7, why isn't on the Gnome site)?

What's the issue?  1.0.53 is the latest; it's much newer than 1.0.7
(53 > 7).

These are version numbers, not decimal numbers. 53 > 7 and is the
latest.

Latest Gnome version?

When I first read the post, I didn't
catch it either.  I read the reply sentence
the 3rd time, and got it.  This again
is based on paradigms of decimal
numbers.

On a related note, I always laugh at the
confusion of sorting ASCII text numbers
like  "1" ,  "12" , "2"  which are
in ascending order for filenames in
directories etc...

John - Love this stuff!

1. Q: How do I get from the latest stable kernel version to the latest prepatch version ?

Thanks.
It just struck me odd that the latest is 2.4.2 while the prepatches were
2.4.3 so I figured there must be something I missed in between (my logic
told me that a 2.4.3 patch would be against a 2.4.3 something ;-).

BTW, I haven't seen any announcements from Linus in this mailing list
regarding new versions, just the updates on the web site and Alan's release
notes saying he's merging with 2.4.3xx. Are those announcements being posted
somewhere else now ?
