ATI CT Mach 64 Display, and Mouse Problem.

Post by MReddy76 » Fri, 05 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Hello,
I have the upgraded version (3.1.2E) of XFree86, and was able to
start
X-Windows. However, the display doesn't come up properly. I see two
windows
on the screen (login, and xterm). The xterm appears towards the right edge
of the
montior and, as a result, the complete window is not seen. Also, when I
try
"xdm" only a portion of the login screen appears on the lower right corner
of the
monitor.

I have generated the CF86Config using the xf86config utility,
and I feel I have supplied all the right information.

Also, the mouse doesn't seem to be recognized. I am using the
XF86_Mach64 server.

Any clues would be grately appreciated.

Thank you

Madhu Reddy

The problem is your running in a lower resolution mode, probably
640x480, and your screen size is set for a high resolution mode
1280x1024(perhaps).  If everythings been configured correctly then you
should be able to change to a higher resolution.
To change modes try ctrl-alt-(numpad)+
If your mouse was working you could just pan down(see below).

Are you running gpm?  I've been told by others that this program causes
trouble for some reason with the mouse under X, although I run it and
I've never had difficulties.  Try killall gpm before firing up X.
Also make sure the mouse device permissions are correct.(see below)
Quote:>cd /dev
>ls -l|grep ttyS0

should see:
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root            5 May 14 01:02 mouse -> ttyS0
crw-rw-rw-   1 root     tty        4,  64 Jul  4 11:44 ttyS0

1. ATI MACH 64 CT and XFree86 3.12 *Solution* to blank screen

I have a Gateway P5-133 with an ATI Mach 64 CT and Vivitron 1776
monitor.   I followed the instructions and tips I'd gleaned from this
newsgroup to the letter -- installed 3.12D and updated to 3.12E,
running the preinst.sh script between -- no luck.   Blank screen.   No
errors, just no electrons being hurled toward the shadow mask.

It's not XFree86.

It's Advanced Power Management.

Recompile with the APM turned off.   Boot with the new kernel.  You're
golden.
