compose key in xfree86

Post by Stefan Katlet » Sat, 21 Feb 1998 04:00:00

I am running SuSE Linux, kernel 2.0.30, Xfree86 3.3.1 and fvwm2. How can
I enable the compose key in order to get accents,... In some
applications it works (xemacs, xterm) and I can enter "" as right
control + ' + a. But in most x-applications it doesn't work (like
netscape).

Please reply also to my email address.
Thanks a lot
Stefan

1. compose key in XFree86-4.0

        Hi!

Does anybody know how to specify a compose key in XFree86-4.0 (a key
that composes accent characters from two ASCII characters, e.g,
<compose>+"+a gives ?). I tried the following entry in my
/etc/X11/XF86Config, but it didn't work:

Section "InputDevice"
  Driver        "keyboard"
  Identifier    "Keyboard[0]"
  Option        "Protocol"    "Standard"
Option        "RightCtl"    "Compose"    <- no success
  Option        "XkbKeyCodes"         "xfree86"
  Option        "XkbLayout"   "us"
  Option        "XkbModel"    "pc101"
  Option        "XkbRules"    "xfree86"
EndSection

Any ideas?

        Thanks in advance,
                Markus
