Matrox MGA-G100 AGP

Post by Pepp » Wed, 20 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Hi everyone

Well I got some problems with this card. I got RH5.0 with Xfree86
3.3.3.1 and I thought that version was suppose to support my card but
it seems not since the only resolution I get working is 320x200 with
mono-server, VGA2-server and SVGA-server. (no other server gives any
result at all).

Anyone know anything about this card or know what I might have done
wrong?

I don't think you have 3.3.3.1. RH5.0 certainly doesn't ship with that
version, and 3.3.3.1 supports the G100.

People always seem to ASSUME they have this or that version. I wonder why,
since it's so damn easy to check (read the server output!)

Hi!

I have the Matrox G100 AGP card and I definately have the Xfree86 3.3.3.1
version, because I just upgraded it, however I can't get it to display in
any resolution other than 320x200 (like Peppe), can anyone help? I've looked
at the support for this X version and it only says that G100 PCI is fully
working.

Any help will be greatly apreciated, Thanks!

hi,
no the 3.3.3.1 version do not comes with RH5.0 but I've upgraded it to
that version.I've done an upgrading before that have worked for me but
on another computer and another card so I've suceded with that part,
so I do NOT assume I've version 3.3.3.1, i know, since the server
output says so.

Hello again, I've just solved my own problem, and maybe you had the same
one, what I had done was to upgrade the Xfree86 vesion that came with my
copy of Redhat 5.2 (version 3.3.2-??) to XFree86-3.3.3-1 using a downloaded
rpm file. However, being that I am new to this game, I didn't download and
install the XFree86-XSVGA-3.3.3-1 server, I have just done that and X is now
running quite happily at 1024x768 (or higher even), if this doesn't help,
you probably have a different problem to me.

Good luck, Jason.

1. XFree86 for PII-300 with Redhat 5.0 and Matrox MGA-G100 AGP PowerDesk ...

I'm not a complete newbie to linux ... I'm running linuxppc on a PowerPC
7500/100 ... but

This is the first time I've setup linux on a PC and in particular had to
setup XFree86 ...

I was wondering if anyone could help me get the proper Xserver for a
PII-300 with Redhat 5.0 and a Matrox MGA-G100 AGP PowerDesk ... ?

Generic SVGA doesn't seem to work, but that could just be me ...

Any help/docs concerning setting up XFree86 in general and/or concerning
my particular problem would be much appreciated.

Thanx in advance,
-jared
