Diamond Stealth 64 Video 2001 & X 3.1.2 (Need help)

Post by Gregory M. Gu » Thu, 01 Aug 1996 04:00:00

I am having BIG problems with my Diamond Stealth 64
Video 2001 card and X 3.1.2.  My system crashes bad!
Half the time it brings down the file system to the
point of being forced to reinstall from scratch.

System:  Linux Slackware 3.0 Elf
         kernal: aha2940 (adaptec 2940)
         X 3.1.2

I have read some other postings about upgrading to X 3.1.2E,F.
I would like to stick with a released version (so I don't
get into the Beta upgrade loop).

Has anyone out there made this card work with reasonable
resolution (at least 800x600 256 colors)?  I don't need anything
too fancy (just to get me going until the next full release).

Is there any good protection method to prevent trashing my
file system while I am experimenting?

If you have an example XF86Config file, please send it.

Thanks - Greg

I'm using the same card.  It works great with the 3.1.2E beta.  But, if
you really don't want to upgrade, the problem (I'm certainly no expert)
seems to be that the last release version can't find the linear
framebuffer.  You can try telling the server where it is:

        MemBase  0xF8000000

I don't know if that will help, but it's worth a try.   Let me know if
it works.  Also, until you upgrade, you'll still probably have to put up
with that ugly bright band down the left edge of the display.

I'm using Slackware v2.3 (installed off an older CD) but I've got a
Diamond Stealth 64 Video 2001 w/ 2MB of memory and it's working pretty
well at 256 colors and 1280x1024 with a Tatung monitor.

However, I am getting a message from the X server that it won't use the
linear framebuffer and I'm getting a sort of bright band on the left edge
of the screen (and a nice row of pixels down the left).

Can I point my server at the framebuffer?  Will that have any effect on
things?  Can I get rid of the band without upgrading?

Greg -- If you want to e-mail me, I can send you my X386Config file,
although I'm using older software and I don't know if it's compatible...

Is that the one w/ 2 or 4MB VRAM?
I have a 4MVRAM Video card w/ Trio RAMDAC.
Got it working fine under X. You didn't explain the problem well enough to
figure out what is going on? What does X complain about when you try to start
it....What are the message that the XServer generates.....

If you have the Trio64V+ (added the + on recently) youll NEED to use
AccelX 1.3.   No workaround.  3.1.2E,F crash miserably and cause file damage
each time (for me and a friend both).

I have a Stealth 64 Video 2001, w/ Trio64V+ and it works fine.
Use xf86config to produce the XF86Config file. I believe it was
card nr. 41 in the database of xf86config.

1. Need help with Diamond Stealth 64 V 2001 & Sony Multiscan 15sf

Hi,

I got the "Diamond Stealth 64 Video 2001" graphic card and the
"Sony Multiscan 15sf" Monitor. If I start any program using
the svgalib it doesn't work: The sceen blancs and the monitor is
going in the power saving mode.
The same under X with correct selected graphic card and correct
parameters for the monitor. Also with choosen only standard vga.
Exist there any other config file in which I had to specify my
hardware?
Or any clue what is wrong?
