How do I get a SPEA Mercury P64 to work?

Post by Hopfer Marc » Tue, 11 Apr 1995 04:00:00

I've got Linux Feb 95 Edition (3 CD-ROM's), XFree86 3.1.1 but
can't get my SPEA Mercury P64 to work with it.

I tried the Standard-Installation,

I tried the ConfigXF86 utility with
SPEA Mercury, SPEA Mirage, etc.,
with several different monitors (I've a 82kHz - 100MHz Multisync).

I tried "dac_8_bit" and "SPEA_Mercury" option.

At last i tried several old Xconfig-files.

I tried to pray.
I will not try to kill myself.

Is anybody out there who knows the trick/patch to get the
SPEA to work - respectively, can anyone mail me an
working Xconfig file.

Hi!

I think the problem is your RAMDAC setting.

I have a
              Spea V7-Mercury P64 (PCI)
              S3-Vision964 Chip
              AT&T 20C505 RAMDAC
              ICS9161 Clockchip

(tested with SuperProbe and opend my computer to check)
Its really an AT&T 20C505 RAMDAC.

using Linux vers. 1.2.3
      XFree86 vers. 3.1.1

So first I tried
Ramdac      "att20c505"
in the config-file.

Nothing was working.

Today (after 1 week) I tried
Ramdac      "bt9485"
and all was fine.
Don't know why?

Hope this will help you!

Here's my Device-setting.
Don't know if you really need Option "spea_mercury".

Section "Device"
    Identifier  "SPEA V7-Mercury P64"
    BoardName   "S3-Vision964"
    VideoRam    2048
    Ramdac      "bt9485"
    Clockchip   "ics9161a"
    Option  "spea_mercury"
EndSection
