Can't find the "fixed" font !

Post by Jason M. » Mon, 12 Feb 1996 04:00:00

This is a Linux 1.2.13. After my installing XF86, I could start X with no
problem at all - it run perfectly.

However, after I quited from X server, I could not restart it. I got a error
message: can't find the default fout "fixed".  Then I run xf86config and
tried to start it again, it came up the same error massage.

Does anyone know what's wrong with my X server ?

Thank you.

The 'fixed' font is in /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc.  Change to
here and see if all the fonts you would expect to see are
indeed here (there should be quite a few).  If they are,
as root run mkfontdir (just in case).  If not, reinstall
the fonts.  Then check your XF86Config file in
/usr/lib/X11 for font lines.  Ensure that the directory
/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc is listed.

Hope this helps,

Charlie

1. X won't start "could not find font 'fixed'"

Hello,

I just reinstalled Solaris 8 on a new Blade 100.  When the system boots
I get an error that it can't connect to display:0, and X won't start.

When I try to run xinit at the command line I get and fatal server error
that the font 'fixed' could not be found.  All of the fontpaths appear
to be setup correctly.

Also, when I try to start xfs at the command line I get another fatal
error saying that No listening sockets established, ListenTransCount=0
errno=125.  fsadmin tells me that xfs is set to startup from inetd...

Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?  I'm starting to rip my
hair out...

Thanks,

Adhamh Findlay
