Try:
        ftp.xfree86.org
        xfree86.cdrom.com
        ftp.rge.com

Also, on ftp.xfree86.org, in the file /pub/MIRRORS, I think, you can
find a list of all sites which mirror Xfree86. Most (but not all) of
these are carrying 3.1.2D.

hello

first of all

first of all, I answer to this: when starting X use
 startx -- -bpp 16
to give to X the option: no fuss with switching consoles...

( I have Pentium 75, PCI 1Meg card, Linux 1.2.13 from Slackware 3.0.0)

I have downloaded the following files to tonelli.sns.it :

  ----
Free86/original_dirs_at_xfree86

/home/ftp/pub/mirror/ftp.xfree86.org/XFree86:
3.1.2B/

X312Bupd.tar  postinst.sh MIRRORS

/home/ftp/pub/mirror/ftp.xfree86.org/XFree86/3.1.2D/Linux:

X312DSVGA.tgz
X312Dbin.tgz
X312Ddoc.tgz
X312Dfnts.tgz
X312Dlib.tgz
X312Dman.tgz

 ----

This is all is needed for running with the Trident card
with Linux Elf (if you have already  XFree 3.1.2 on )
Everybody can login as anonymous
( I did this because as of yesterday none of the usual mirrors had 3.1.2D)

Third:
the server works fine to me , but... the

Modeline "1024x768"    65    1024 1032 1176 1344   768  771  777  806 -hsync
-vs
ync

makes my screen behave strangely:  I see strange small "waves" that move some
left or right some of the lines of the screen , appearing and disapperaring
Has anyone seen this? I tried playing with xvidtune, no result.

I am currently using

Modeline "1024x768i"    44.9  1024 1048 1208 1264   768  776  784  817
Interlace

that works fine with this monitor.

suggests

and what about 1280x1024 ? the manual of the card says that this should be
possible (with 16 colors, since I just have 1meg); what should I do?

as always, many many thanks to XFree 86!!!!

1. Trident 9440/3.1.2D

Well, I got a beautiful display out of the card, but whenever I call up an
xterm (regardless of the window manager), I get the following error:

xterm:  can't resolve symbol 'XkbLooupKeySym'
X connection to :0.0 brown (explict kill or server shutdown)

I have tried this with several different keyboard configs with no luck.
I suspect that I have a missing library or something is not linked correctly?

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be most grateful.  Much Thanks!

E-mail welcome . . .
