do i need to upgrade to XFree86 3.3.3.1??

Hi,  my system is winbook laptop XL, 233MHz, Chip & Technologies 65554
video chip, redhat 5.2.   Now I am using XFree86 3.3.2.3 and the system
seems working fine.  Then I was told everyone should upgrade to XFree86
3.3.3.1 as possible.  I checked the release log for the 3.3.3.1, and
found that the main change is many video drivers are added, which i
think is nothing related to my system.   They also have some minor
changes, but i am not sure if that is worth going through all the
trouble.   Can anyone give me some advices???   Thanks!!

Pete

I'd trouble with the 3.3.3.1 server so right now I'm using the
3.3.3.1 binaries and libraries (due to an upgrade to glibc) and the
3.3.2 X server since it is the one that works fine and without a
hitch.

I think this answers your question.

Cheers,
Juergen

1. Need Help Upgrading from XFree86 3.2Abeta to 3.3

I'm fairly new to Linux, and even newer to XFree86. I was able to install and
get XFree86 3.2A Beta Version to run on my machine. But as of Mid June, the
Beta release expired, and each time I try to start XFree86 I get an expiration
error. So I download all the binaries for Version 3.3.

I ran the preinst.sh script, followed by the
gzip -d < X33file.tgz | tar vxf-
for each binary I downloaded. I received a broken pipe error each time I ran
this command, but according to the Release Notes, this was ok providing there
are no other messages. I then ran the postinst.sh script.

I still have the same problem, each time I start Xfree86 I still get an
expiration error for Version 3.2A Beta. I don't believe that the gzip and tar
commands worked, but I'm not sure. All I know is that I can't figure out how
to run version 3.3. Can anyone lead me in the right direction. Any help is
much appreciated.
