pci-et4000w32p doesn't work at all (green monitor goes down)

I have a Tseng Labs et4000w32p_rev_d video card, in a PCI slot.
SuperProbe won't identify it correctly without the -no_bios switch
(without it it'll say it's a MCGA).
Anyways, the accelerated X server XF86_W32 says that it can't read colormap
mentioning that it'll restore colors from default which it does not either.
Few secs after the monitor light goes red (it goes in StandBy mode) and I
can't wake it up without a CTRL-ALT-DEL. (Linux works fine except it doesn't
display anything).

The SVGA server works fine (needed to disable some settings in the PCI setup
in order to avoid the pixel snow).

I suspect that the accelerated server doesn't know the ramdac OR it can't
work with the PCI bus.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Laurentiu

pci-et4000w32p doesn't work at all (green monitor goes down)

I was having very much the same problems, amongst others.  I don't know
if you are using this X server already, but there is an updated server
in the Xservers (or something like that) directory on sunsite or its
mirrors, that contains an X server patched to handle a lot of
incosistencies with the W32ps.

Hope this helps,

Even better, there is the Beta W32 server in
        ftp.xfree86.org:/pub/XFree86/3.1.2A/Linux
Please give that a try.

1. Re. bffcreate -X doesn't work Re: bffcreate -X Doesn't Work

bffcreate first restores all images from the tape to /tmp (default)
and than does a 'restore -p' to pack them in big files and place these
files in /usr/sys/inst.images. It's much more easier to use 'dd' to
copy the files directly from the tape to disk. The only thing you have
to take care about it the naming. If all images are copied run 'inutoc'
on the directory were you placed your files this will create the
table of contents files '.toc'.
