Recommendations for monitors (17" - 21")

Post by Morten J|h » Mon, 11 Sep 1995 04:00:00

I'm about to buy me a new monitor, and I would like to run at least
1152x864 - preferably 1280x1024. What monitors would you recommend me ?
My local supplier has:
  Samsung Syncmasters (17Gls, 17Glsi, 20Gls)
The whole Eizo (Nanao) product line
  MAG MXP
and I would especially like comments on those.

thanks in advance

I just received a Samsung SyncMaster 17GLS to test out, and so far I've noticed
two big problems with it:

        1.  The screen seems to have an uncorrectable right tilt.  There is an option
for correcting this but it doesn't correct it all the way.  This may simply
             be a defective monitor.

        2.  I've noticed that at higher resolutions (1280 x 1024 and up) the screen
flickers quite noticeably.  Much to the point where it was unusable for
me.  I've been testing it on a PS2E which uses an XGA-2 video chip, so
I can't say whether or not it is completely the monitor.

With no reservations I can say that the MITSUBISHI Diamond Pro 21FS is the best
21" flat screen I have ever seen.  1280x1024 Xwindows is perfect.

I'll second that..  The two faint horizontal lines sometimes bother me but I
have to be looking for them to notice them.

Hi,

All I have to say is that I LOVE my GDM17se1 (SONY).  It's incredible at all
resolutions and the colors are PERFECT!  Highest resolution 1600x1200.

Witek

P.S.  I do have a bit of misconvergence in one of the corners, but it's hardly
noticable.

Flicker almost always means you need to set up your video card for a higher
vertical refresh rate.  Just make sure the monitor can support higher
refresh rates; 60 Hz at the minimum, even at the highest resolution, and
72 Hz or higher being preferred; you can still see just a little flicker
at 60Hz.

But can it do 1600x 1200?  With a 21" monitor I'd want to be able to run that
resolution.

1. Seeking 20" and 21" Monitor Recommendation

I'm currently shopping for a 20" or 21" monitor for a linux system. I was
thinking about the NEC XE21 but I see that it will only run to 1280x1024 at
60Hz. Does anyone have any experience with this monitor or others running at
this rate, or any suggestions of a better choice? Thanks.

Terry
