Magicfilter is available on:
<ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/Printing/magicfilter-1.1b.tar.gz
It is a nice package. It comes with a lot of pregenerated printer
configurations for many popular printers. When you build it, all you
have to do is take the filter built for your printer and insert it into
your /etc/printcap as the input filter, and restart lpd (the
instructions for Magicfilter explain this better than I can...) Once
that's done, your printer will Print the Right Thing, whether what you
want to print is plain ASCII, PostScript, DVI, or a zillion other
formats. MagicFilter will automatically recognize it and pipe your
file to the right program (like GhostScript) so you'll get nice
printouts.
