Problem with x-term and ptys

Post by Henrik Johansso » Tue, 20 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Have anybody had this problem before?

X works well when I start it with 'startx'. The x-programs starts as
they shall. But I can't start x-term!

When I exit X, I see that everytime I tried to start x-term the computer
complained about 'No more ptys'.

Are there any easy solutions to this problem?

I boot from a bootkernal disk that is called 'net'. With the command
'mount root=/dev/hdc1 ro'.

Here are a specification of my computer:

P-150
48Mb
Diamond Stealth 3000 Vram

I have encountered this similar problem.  I think it is because the device is not in the /dev directory
You can try this:

(1) login as root
(2) go to /dev directory
(3) type this command:  MAKEDEV ptyp

that should do the job.
