xfree86 4.0, fonts and g400 dual head

Post by Ron McKow » Sat, 08 Jul 2000 04:00:00

greetings all,
installed xfree86 4.0 without any problems.  have a dual-head matrox
g400 and would like to get it working, but that's not much of a priority
right now.  i'm more concerned about fonts.  i'm no longer using xfs
(redhat 6.2) and i'm not sure if my fonts are all set up correctly.  is
there anything special i should do to insure all my fonts are working
correctly?   i can't launch abiword anymore (i think it's a 4.0
problem).  but in gedit, my fonts seem to work ok (although some fonts
are actually chinese when they say otherwise)...  is there a special
place to put my font paths in 4.0?

I'm curious...  Any particular reason your avoiding using xfs?

it's basically a single user system..do i need xfs?  what about the 100dpi
fonts?  i'm just trying to get the most of what xfree 4.0 has to offer.  what
do you suggest?

1. XFree86 4.0 dual head Matrox G400 Max

I'm trying to find an X server that can enable the use of both head's on
my dual head Matrox G400 Max. I couldn't find anything on
www.XFree86.org that said it wasn't supported, and Matrox cards seemed
highly recommended (that's why I got it).

Seems XFree86 doesn't support both head yet though.
AcceleratedX is supposed to support both heads of the G400, but it's
$200... I could have bought two cards, use XFree86, and saved money.
MetroX supports dual head configs... but doesn't mention anything about
using both heads on the Matrox G400 Max.

Anyone know when it will be supported in either MetroX or XFree86?
(or if there is any way to get a beta that supports it)

Thanks,
