XFree and SS24x

Just a little question for people who uses a SS24x and XFree86.  I
managed to get XFree86 running at 1024x768 with a NEC 4FG monitor and
SS24x card.  The problems that I'm having is that the card's clock rating
isn't always 75 or above, which is requred by the 4FG to run at
1024x768NI mode.  Sometimes the maximum clock is 55, while other times
it's at around 77 (or so.)  I tried booting to DOS to run 24xmode.com,
then reboot to Linux after it.  It doesn't help because the clock stays
at 55 (max.)  Has this ever happened to anyone else?  I'm using the
default settings (for the 4FG and the SS24x) that was suggested to me by
those HOWTO files.
        Thanks.
P.S.  I'm running Slackware1.2.0 (I think.  :)

if there is a clock chip "DCS2824" on your card you can use

        Clocks "icd2061a_slow"
for XFree86 2.x or
        ClockChip "icd2061a"
for XFree86 3.1.

Well, XFree86 (2.1) reports that my SS24X can clock up to 90 MHz.  I use
the freq program (check ftp.sunsite.unc for /pub/Linux/X11/X-servers/
diamond.taz) to set the clock for high-res modes (I think it defaults to
50 MHz).  Just follow the instructions that come with freq to use it.
