The XF86 Servers for Matrox Mystique cards do not cooperate with
Ms serial mice Version 2.1A (2.0A is ok):
On startup, the X server hangs at the empty gray background
until both mouse buttons are clicked simultaneously.
After that, the startup is completed- but mouseclicks are not always
interpreted correctly.
Affected:
XSuSE_Matrox Version 1.3/ X Window System
(protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6300)
Release Date: 12 December 1997
Operating System: Linux 2.1.51 i686 [ELF]
Configured drivers:
SVGA: server for SVGA graphics adaptors (Patchlevel 0):
mga2064w, mga1064sg, mga2164w, mga2164w AGP
and XF86_SVGA: XFree86 Version 3.3.1 Release Date: August 4 1997.
Replacing 2.1A mice with 2.0A Version solves this problem, but
they sell lots of 2.1A ones out there...
Appearantly, Microsoft changed the mouse protocol on the 2.1A series.
Interestingly, the standard S3 X-Server does not have this problem.
Mystique Server +2.1A tested on 586/PCI, with Kernel Versions 2.0.33 and 2.0.30
S3 Server + 2.1A tested on 486/VLB, same Kernel Versions.
