Yet another Matrox G100/G200 on RedHat 5.2 question

Yet another Matrox G100/G200 on RedHat 5.2 question

Post by Mark Lanz » Fri, 11 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I just recently installed RH5.2 on a machine of mine.  Fresh install
on * disk. Everything went well, except that RH5.2 does not
include an X server capable of handling the G100-based card I have
("Productiva").  So at the moment my machine's not useful for much. :-(

I went looking for a server which could handle the Matrox cards.
Supposedly Xfree86 3.3.3 contains servers which can handle these
cards.  I went poking around on SuSE's site to find the updated
server.  No luck. Nothing like an "Xmatrox.rpm" or similar.
No mention in any of the documentation files I could find which
would tell me just which of the myriad of files contained the
server I want.  Nothing on the RH site either.

Does anyone know then, exactly which file(s) I need to fetch
to get a working system?  Do I just need a new server, or am
I going to need to replace any other parts of the X11 distribution?
If the latter, then what is the best procedure to remove all
the existing cruft and make sure everything is installed
cleanly at the appropriate rev level?

I've also seen some questions here where people couldn't get
their cards to do anything but 320x200 (a useless mode).  The
only modes I want are 1600x1280 and perhaps 1280x1024.  Has
this issue been resolved?

Go to www.matrox.com and get:-
  xsvga-3_3_3-0_i386.rpm
It was on the Siemens page.
Just installed it here, can use it upto 1280x1024.

Ooops, that link was for OS/2. It was a busy day:-)

Try the following, same filename but I note that there is now a 3.3.3-3

ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse_update/XFree86-3.3.3-SuSE/

To insall, follow the advice given in another thread in this group.
