I've read the doc's to configure XF86 3.1.1 for vidoe card and monitor
and I am still confused.  I have a CL-GD5426 VLB w/1024 ram and a
MegaImage 14" Monitor.  I did not get the manual with either of these
when I bought my computer.  Whem I use XF86config it gives a setup that
is off centre and flickers on the left whenever there is activity in the
centre of the window in 1024x768.  If anyone out there is willing to take
the time to help a frustrated Linux newbie it would be appreciated.

AMD 486DX50 (Not DX2/50)
Slackware 2.3
Linux 1.2.8
Cirrus Logic CL-GD5426 VLB w/1024K
MegaImage 14" Non-Interlaced Monitor
8 MB ram
16 MB swap

Another 'problem':  When I loaded Xboard with nothing else running the
hard drive thrashed like crazy making the system unusable. (i.e. Took 2.5
mins to make the first move, mouse impossibly slow).  Why?

Linux on hdb2 - 220 MB Partition.

1. CL-GD5426 & XFree86 & 16bpp / 32bpp

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with Cirrus Logic 5426 card,
and the setting in /etc/XF86Config that is needed in order to obtain
64k and 16.7mil colors in X.

I've read the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/README.cirrus, where it mentioned
of adding Option "linear" and MemBase to the file.

However, I did define the MemBase and add the option "linear", all
that does is crashing the console, then i'd have to switch console
(control + alt + F1 ) to kill X server process.

Any help is appreciated, thanks for your time.
